3 juillet: Kirkenes - Neiden

Untitled Today, bad day! As i said I wanted to go down to the boarder of Finland, Russia and Norge, juste to go touch that triangle stone. But on the way, I went in a new storm of rain and wind. So I decided to stop 35km south of Kirkenes (or 65km north od Nyrud). At the same time, I lost the time: in this place, there are 3 timelines (Norge (GTM +1), Finland (GTM +2) and Russia (GTM +3)) and my phone changes all 5 minutes 1 hour, jumping from one country to an other. This was funny but at the same time, I did no more knew what time it was... so I took the time to decide to go back to Kirkenes and then to move in direction of Gamvik.
It was also a day to cry... Yes, I had this feeling on the way back to Kirkenes because I saw that I could not go further for several reasons: 1) my body said stop, 2) the Russian border was no more far away, 3) the weather built a wet wall against me... And 4) I understood in a kind of way, that I reached the top of my travel... Of course I haven't been in Gamvik yet, but I know now that I'm on the way home and Gamvik is on that way, because I'll take the long way home. Home, a word I haven't used for a long time. 4 letters and so hard to say: the words do not want to pass my lips... I just feel tears rolling down my face when I can say the word. The feelings are going in all direction. I'm standing in the rain, I cry and I'm happy again... I'm singing, just singing in the rain...
So, was my day so bad? Hard to define: as you know, the weather makes 90% of my moral... But, there is always a but! People can save my days and today I met wonderfull people: first I went in a hotel to drink a warm coffee... There I met a German guy traveling after his own history (he went to Kirkenes 52 years ago with a friend by hitchhiking) and he offered me the evening meal: warm meet with potatoes, vegetables (BROCOLIS) and a huge salad (yes, vitamins!!!). I didn't go far away after that meeting in reason of the weather (the rain and wind get stronger during I was eating). So I went to a place for caravans and other campers on wheels: I put my tent on the hard ground (the grass is to wet)... When the rain is my hardest enemy on the bike, i discovered that the wind was the main problem under the tent, so that I went to the next camper to ask if I could put my tent close to them: no problem. And now (or tonight: 22h30) I'm sitting under my tent, outside there is a rain storm, and the lady of the camper came to knock at my tent with a plat of cold meet, some potato salad, some bread and a beer. I just can't believe it! I haven't eaten so much since I left home... And i see that i needed it. In these conditions, the weather makes only 10% of my moral. I'm singing, just singing in the rain... !THANK YOU! Chears. Untitled (Neiden or Näätämö in Finnish)

2 juillet: Kirkenes - Grense Jakobselv - Kirkenes

Also Natur pur!

The blog lives again!

Kirkenes has Internet! Isn't it nice? And I will stay around the city for a wile (I went today to Grense Jakobselv (the northerst place of the Norge-Russian boarder) and the two next days I'll go make a longer tour to the south (I wanna see the stone placed between Russia, Finland and Norge)! After that, goodbye Russia (and goodbye the RAIN!!!) :-)Untitled

1 juillet: Partakko - Kirkenes

I went to Sevettjärvi, one of the last village before the border: there is a excellent small museum about the life of the Sami (Lappish people). The only disappointing thing with that museum is that it is much more better than the SIIDA center and it's for free! So if you get lost once in Lapland, I would recommend you the following places: Kemihaara (for the magic place), Ukonjärvi (for the view on the lake of Inari, or Inarijärvi) and Sevettjärvi (for the local history). The road I went yesterday and today leading between Inari and Näätämö should also be a must (when the wether is on your side). If you travel with a bicycle, you will have the same shock than me: the boarder between Finland and Norge is not only a political boarder. Lapland is flat, Norge is hilly: it's like the Swiss alpine chain with the only difference, that you can see the sea! It's going up and down and up again and it turns in all directions so you do no more know where the North is! You know only that you just need to follow the road to reach you destination: Kirkenes. Untitled

I came back to real life this morning: back to the fast life on the big roads, back to the money, back to the commercial world... well, as I sad, back to the real world!
About the big and fast roads, there is nothing to say, except these are big and fast roads!
About the money, there is a little bit more to say: The first person I met today asked me if I wanted to get rich! Of course, I had to pay for it :-) the connection between spending money and getting rich is a gold river! So I had the possibility to try during several hours the gold wash in a very cold river on a very cold day! Unfortunately, I came juste back from Santa Klaus, where I learned that the most important thing is not gold or money, but friendship: this is real gold! Maybe if we were 2 or 3, we would have tried it one our or two... just for fun. But alone, there is no challenge and if I would have had found something, with whom would I have shared the beer? So I decline the offer. So I'm still arm, but not armer :-) Untitled (goldrush) About the commercial world now. After I have declined the gold and it's temptation, I came to the next challenge: I went up on the mountain Kaunispää. On the top, there is a restaurant with one or two customers, so sat on a bank and wanted to eat my pick-nick. After two minutes (the time to pack all my stuff of) the waitress came and told me: "- it's a private place here. - is it possible to eat a small thing, then I come for a coffee? I asked. - Grumble grumble grumble was the answer. - ok, no problem, I go up the tower there (the view is much more beautiful), have a nice day! - again grumble grumble grumble". At the end, I went to a small tower and had a splendid view on Lapland during my lunch. No coffee, but I was happy and not armer too!  Untitled (Kaunispää) There is a last thing: When you go on a mountain, you want to go on an other one. So i went on Sovintovaaran. Sovintovaaran is not so high, but the road that leads to this place is about 2km. There are two signs at the foot of the mountain: "no trail!" and "20%!" Yes, it's more than the 18% of the Chanez and I felt the difference! (for my sponsors: I have taken a picture of myself on the top, a few seconds after my arrival). I was there 10 minutes before they close the access (it's a private road, so I had to pay extra charges) and the guardian allowed me to stay a little bit longer: I could wonder the lake inari and it's many islands! The guardian saw that my glasses were not so clean, so she offered me a set to clean my glasses: that payed me the entrance and gave me a better view of the panorama... You wanna see? -> www.ivalonmaahiset.fi or juste the following picture: Untitled (lac Inari)

1793.4km en 91h03. Today at 2 o'clock in the morning... or tonight (even of the sun is in the sky), I heard a clip, clop, clip, clop... I thought it was the wind playing with the nature. At 2h30, I thought it could not be the wind, so I decided to open my eyes to see what happened! Well, it is hard to describe this situation, but it was a kind of déjà vu:
In Corsica, several years ago as I did the GR20 with friends, we spend a night in a tent... In the middle of the night I woke up and thought I was sleeping on the bed of one of my friend because the ground was very soft. I decided then to wake him up to tell him that something was wrong. As he moved, the tent began to swing... So we decided to open the tent to see what happened: it's good to notice that during the whole night there was a storm and hard rain. Finally, we saw that we were saft, but our tent was in the middle of a small lake...
Well tonight it was not exactly like in Corsica (the tent was waterproof): my teepee was not so water resistant and it was raining inside. The fact is, that I was sleeping on a waterproof plastic... and the water felt on this plastic, so I was sleeping directly in the water... I could finally find a dry place where to sleep but my sleepingbag was already wet :-( but I was to tired to feel it :-)
I had to wait the morning, about 8 o'clock, to go eat the breakslow (I took my time, the time to let my stuff dry in the heating room, with the help of my "Santa") prepared by "Santas wife": porridge, bread, meet, cheese, butter, tomato, cucumber, coffee and orange juice! I shared my meal with 6 persons from Finland (they came from everywhere). One more time, the Chrismas spirit came to help me: the 6 "lutins" offered me to bring me to Ruuvaoja with their "traîneau" so I do not have to ride back the road I have already seen. It was just excellent, because it was SNOWING at this time (cold wind from north)... Untitled (meine 2 Schutzengel)
