9 July: Smalfjord - Falleluft (Bekkarfjord)

3010.1km from Helsinki in 158h07.
One more time I had to fight against the weather: during my trip over the Ifjodfjollet it was not only raining, I had also to bike hard against the cold west wind. The mountain is about 340m over seed level, so I could enjoy the snow falling down from the sky and of course some ice bullets hitting my face. And when the rain/snow/ice gave up, had to ride along a road on construction... I left Smalfjord at 8am and arrived at Ifjord at about 1:30pm: 6 hours on a 40km long road... That's long, very long. And at the end of this road I thought I deserve a coffee on a camping place: unfortunately the owner was bad mood. So I drunk my coffee and left without being warm again. This was my long and difficult morning...

The sun came juste after 2:30pm and the nice people too... Is there any relation between? I can't answer that but what I know is that I met 2 nice Germans from Flensburg hiking around here. They told me where I could buy some stuff to eat (my stock were lose to 0) but I had to hurry (shops up here close not so late). Anyway, on the way back home they want to invite me for a coffee... We'll see ;-)
In the store I went, I discovered a general store (like in the far west): you can find all you need and all what you do not need. So I decided there to buy a raincoat (mine is a real swamp). They were nice, they offered me a discount, because I didn't wanted/needed the rain pants included in the pack.
Finally, I met 2 Germans, Frank and Olaf, from Rostock. They were parked along the road, I stopped to ask them if they needed some help. It was all ok, but at the end, they invited me in their little paradise: a small cottage close to the fjord (20min on foot). Two rivers are running around. In the bigger one there is a bath and a "hard" shower. Of course the water is icy, but its just excellent to take a bath with the view on a fjord. We shared the meal tonight: soup, potatoes and sausages. It was warm, good and felt my stomach. At 23:30 they left the cottage because they wanted to see the midnight sun and make a small walk. For me it was too much (after one day fighting against the wind I had no more energy even for a small walk: in other words, I decided not to spend my last energy for that because tomorrow it's a new biker day).
I felt them how my body just fall on the ground: the energy was completely missing. In my head I had the same feeling. Since Kemihaara I hadn't taken a bigger rest (when you are outdoor, you have to watch every time for everything (forget nothing, weather, food, energy, time)).
Untitled (the place where I'll sleep tonight... Ok I took the picture the 10th with a cloudy and dark sky: I hope you see something)
